There
aren’t many store owners in Los Angeles that greet you with a bear-hug. Karen Michelle is the exception to the
rule.
 I
made my way over to Karen Michelle Boutique and Gifts on Sunday afternoon. Upon arriving, I found myself in a motherly
embrace by Karen Michelle herself and felt like I was home. It’s impossible to not feel like you’re part
of a family upon entering this upscale, but reasonably priced, storefront on
Robertson. In the hour that I spent with
Karen Michelle, she must have introduced me to a dozen people. She knew each person who came in by name…and
she knew their mother’s name…and their grandma’s name…it was insane.
I’m
bad at shopping so I was initially a little apprehensive about looking
around. My fears were squelched upon meeting
the store’s personal stylist, Nancy.
Nancy was hand-picked by Karen to act as a personal shopper for those of
us who can’t afford one. She is
available during regular store hours to guide each shopper through an array of
dresses, scarves, tops and sweaters.
Within five minutes, Nancy had me in a dressing room and was literally
just throwing outfits at me. Styling is
a gift and Nancy has it.
Sadly,
I’m a 31 year old who likes to dress like a 13 year old and the styles at Karen
Michelle’s were a little bit mature for me.
Karen and Nancy couldn’t have been more gracious as I hemmed and hawed
over what I liked or didn’t like.
In
addition to clothing, Karen Michelle’s also carries Indie Lee facial products
and  KM Fantasy Massage Oil Candles, as well as an array of jewelry and
accessories. If it’s in Karen Michelle’s
store, it’s because Karen Michelle loves it.
She has an extensive knowledge of her products because she uses them!
After
opening their doors in September of 2011, Karen Michelle Boutique and Gifts has
become a local drop-in. They get new
shipments every seven days and can be seen at trunk-shows around the city. Come for the fashions, stay for the bear-hug.
Regular store hours are Monday through Thursday
from 10am to 7pm; Fridays from 10am to 4:30pm, Sunday from 10:30am to 5pm and
the store is closed on Saturdays.
Private appointments are also available.
